We want to share important information about the protections and rights of all students in Meridian, especially those who are immigrants or come from immigrant families.
Our schools have a moral and constitutional obligation to provide a free, high-quality education to every student, regardless of their immigration or citizenship status. In alignment with our strategic plan and our core value of Belonging, we believe in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where every child can thrive. Every student has the right to access educational services, including special education, meal programs and language support.
Under the U.S. Supreme Court decision Plyler v. Doe, 457 U.S. 202 (1982), all children residing in the U.S. have the right to attend public schools, regardless of their immigration status. Public schools may not deny admission to a student or treat them differently.
We respect the privacy of our students and families. Schools do not collect or share information about immigration status with federal authorities, and it is against the law for schools to discriminate based on race, color, national origin, citizenship or immigration status.
We are committed to clear and accessible communication with all families. Translated materials and interpretation services are available to ensure you understand all information related to your child’s education. If you have any concerns or need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
We are here to support you and your children, and we thank you for being a valued part of our school community.
