Last year, the Strategic Plan Development Committee created a plan that represents our community, and our hopes and expectations for all of our students. The new strategic plan called Our Commitments includes five core values: belonging, communication, support, wellness and learning. This year we are asking staff and students what these values mean to them!
Xiomara, sophomore at Meridian High School
Why did you pick belonging and wellness?
“If I am having a bad day, I’m not going to want to learn. Wellness is feeling happy mentally and physically, and feeling proud of yourself. It goes hand in hand with belonging because that gives you the support you need to feel happy and successful. The teachers here are very nice and open. They are comforting and fun to talk to.”
Ella, sophomore at Meridian High School
Why did you pick belonging?
“Belonging means everybody has a place. I think it is very important that people are accepting. A lot of minority groups are scared of discrimination or they are ignored. I think one of the biggest issues is that we avoid talking about diversity, so there are a lot of misconceptions and distrust. Humans need somewhere to belong and if you are left out, that affects everything else, it affects communication, support, wellness and learning.”

Miguel, seventh grader at Meridian Middle School
Why did you pick learning?
“Because if there is something you don’t know, the teacher will help you out. The teachers teach you in social studies about the past. I like to learn about different cultures. I try to get good grades and finish all my work.”
