We are currently working on our budget for the 2023-24 school year. Since the majority of our funding is provided through state dollars, we closely monitor the work of the legislature and their development of the state budget. Our annual budget process as well as monthly budget reports are available on our website.
You may have heard of budget challenges some school districts in our region are facing next year. In past years, school district budgets have been complicated but the COVID-19 pandemic and recent inflation has increased the complexity due to decreased enrollment, increased costs of goods and services and temporary funding relief. These factors mean some districts are seeing significant cuts to their budgets next school year.
Due to careful financial planning, we are fortunate that we are not facing a budget deficit. It is always our priority to be fiscally responsible and honor our community through responsible management of funds. We continue to focus on supporting our students and prioritizing retaining our staff.
Currently, we are working to establish our key budget priorities for next year in order to plan effectively. We want to provide an opportunity for staff, families and our community to weigh in. By Feb. 28, please take a moment to answer the question, “As we plan for the next school year, what are the most important things we should consider in order to support all of our students?”
As the budget season progresses, we will continue to share updates with you. Thank you for your continued support of Meridian!
