Field Trips
We are so thankful for the relationship with Irene Reither’s PTA group. The IRE PTA is partnering with us to send all Kindergarten and first-grade students to the apple farm and pumpkin patches. First graders were able to learn from Bellewood Acres last week and Kindergarteners will be heading to Stoney Ridge on Friday. These traditions and partnerships with local organizations are powerful learning experiences for our students. Thank you, IRE PTA, Bellewood Acres, and Stoney Ridge Farm!
Community Involvement Survey Feedback
Thank you to all who responded to our ThoughtExchange asking for feedback on what you would like to see. We recognize many activities are difficult during the pandemic, but also appreciate hearing how we can better connect with each other and support our students. The Community Involvement Committee thoroughly discussed these ideas, along with others, and will reopen this again to solicit additional feedback now that we are fully back in school. We Need Substitutes!
As I’m sure you are aware, the national labor shortage is causing havoc across many industries. It is also affecting Meridian School District. Even before the pandemic, we struggled to fill our substitute roles for bus drivers, teachers, paraeducators, and custodians – to name a few! You may have heard recent stories about school districts down south or in Eastern Washington that have had a difficult time covering their bus routes or filling enough driver positions that they are unable to deliver their students. I’m pleased to report we are not in that situation. In fact, our transportation department has been working extremely hard to fill all roles and support each other to ensure the buses continue to roll! We are appreciative of their efforts – as well as those of our teaching and para support staff who have covered different roles when the numbers are low. It has truly been all hands on deck! Please know and share we have many open positions: bus drivers (we’ll train you!), custodians, food service, and paraprofessional substitute roles.
