We had a fantastic time hosting our Career Fair this morning, and it was great to see alumni and members of our community give of their time to present to our students. A big “thank you” also goes out to our counseling team Mr. Muskavage and Mrs. Greshock, as well as secretaries Mrs. Hoelzle and Mrs. Heinrich, for their work in coordinating the presenters and the paperwork. We also appreciate the help of our custodian Mr. Hansen and the district team in providing us the needed tables and getting things set up. This was a real district-wide effort and we are excited about the sparks that were generated for our students as they begin to make plans for their futures.
This coming week is a spirit week – dress up days are listed in the “Upcoming Events” section below. We’ll also host our second and final dance of the year next Friday, March 1. Tickets will be sold all week and at the door. We look forward to seeing everyone there!
As always, let us know if you have any questions or concerns!

COUNSELING CORNER
Dear MMS Families,
Our Career Fair on February 23rd was a big hit with 20 awesome careers on display. A big thank you to all parents and community members that volunteered their time and talent. Our middle schoolers got to explore lots of interesting careers and learn a lot about different professions.
We believe it’s super important for you to chat with your child about the Career Fair. Ask them about the jobs that got them excited, what they found interesting, and if they have any questions. Your input can really help them figure out what they might want to do in the future.
Having a conversation with your child about the Career Fair will help them make smart choices about their school and future plans. Thank you for all you do!
Have a great weekend!
Warm regards,
MMS Counselors
GENERAL MMS INFORMATION
Meridian Annual Awards
Each year Meridian School District provides the opportunity for parents, staff, students, and community members to nominate a Meridian staff member for recognition for outstanding service. This year, these awards have been rebranded as the “Thrive Awards” and align with our new strategic plan and our five commitments – Belonging, Communication, Support, Wellness, and Learning.
If you know a Meridian staff member who has exceeded your expectations in those areas – please take a moment to submit a nomination. For more information on the awards, please visit our website.
We Want to Hear from You!
For us to continue to improve as a school district and as a school, it is important for us to understand how we are doing in providing a quality education for all students.
Please take a moment to complete this annual survey which helps us better understand areas we need to focus on in order to provide the best quality education for our students. This survey will also serve as data for us as we continue to work toward meeting our goals outlined in Our Commitments, our strategic plan. The survey asks how you feel about several topics including school communication, expectations for learning and engaging with teachers and administrators.
MMS will be hosting our 2nd dance of the year on March 1st from 6-8pm. We invite all students to attend this dance with a “Hollywood” theme. Tickets can be purchased in the Main Office all week next week for a reduced rate of $3. Tickets purchased at the door will cost $5.
If you are interested in chaperoning, please reach out to Mrs. Yeager as soon as possible. Chaperones will need to have a completed WATCH form on file for the district before the day of the dance.
Attendance Tips
Did you know that attendance is one of the leading factors that predict if a student will drop out of high school? Showing up makes a bigger difference than you know! Making an effort to get to school can have a big impact on your future.
Yearbook Photos and 8th Grade Baby Pictures
Families and Students, if you have pictures from sporting events or other school related activities that you would like considered for the yearbook, please follow the instructions below to be considered for the yearbook. Make sure pictures consist of ONLY MMS students (no siblings, family members, or students from other schools).
Calling all 8th graders! Keeping up with tradition, we need baby pictures of 8th graders for the yearbook. Please submit them digitally through yearbookforever.com or bring a physical copy with your students name on the back to the office.
To submit digitally, go to yearbookforever.com and enter Meridian Middle School, Lynden WA (make sure you select the correct one, not Idaho). Select Yearbook Snap and enter the code mms to upload your students baby picture!
All pictures are due no later than March 29th
COMMUNITY RESOURCES
Family Services Center
The Meridian School District Family Resource Center is open daily from 8:30 to 3:30 in portable 400A on the Irene Reither campus.
Students who qualify for free or reduced meals can stop by to get school supplies or sign up for Operation School Bell which provides new school clothes for students enrolled in Meridian School District. We also have the clothing closet available for any Meridian family looking for gently used adult and kid clothing.
Students who can’t make it in to the family center to get school supplies can pop into the middle school office to get the supplies they need.
