Last year, the Strategic Plan Development Committee created a plan that represents our community, and our hopes and expectations for all of our students. The new strategic plan called Our Commitments includes five core values: belonging, communication, support, wellness and learning. This year we are asking staff and students what these values mean to them!

Why did you pick support and wellness?
“It is good to be supportive and to make friends in school. It is also good to feel good and healthy.“
Bryan, 8th grader at Meridian Middle School
Why did you pick learning?
“I think learning is really important for your future because it can open doors. Like if you learn something today, it can serve you in the future. I can also share my learning and maybe show someone an easier way to do things. I really enjoy science because we get to do labs.”

Why is wellness important?
“I am very excited about our district’s focus on wellness. Wellness is a critical foundation for so much, including learning. Every teacher I work with is passionate about learning. They work with students to engage in rich content, look at data, set goals, and celebrate growth but those teachers also recognize students needs that go beyond teaching and learning. Much of the wellness work we are doing isn’t new including recess walking club, students working in our school garden, students using breathing techniques to get set to learn, and movement breaks but shining a light on them definitely highlights their value.”
Theodore, 4th grader at MP3
Why did you pick communication and how does that tie to belonging?
“I picked communication because I like communicating with my friends. I like talking with them. It makes me feel good talking with them and having conversations. I ask them what they did on the weekend, what they do after school, what their life is like. Without communication I wouldn’t know my friends.”
