Today marked our 45th day of school and the end of 1st quarter. If you haven’t checked in lately, now would be a great time to visit Skyward to check your student’s progress at the halfway mark of the semester. Our staff will be posting official grades for 1st quarter in the coming week, and a progress report card will be uploaded to Skyward soon. We’ll give you more information when that happens – but stay tuned!
If you are worried about your child’s academic progress in a particular class, we recommend starting with an email or phone call to that particular teacher. If the concerns are more broad or span multiple classes, checking in with one of our counselors – Brett Muskavage or Kathy Greshock – may be a better option. We are always happy to set up meeting with families to work as partners for a student’s success.
As always, let us know if you have any questions or concerns!

COUNSELING CORNER
Dear Middle School Families,
We hope this message finds you well as we approach the end of the first quarter at Meridian Middle School. We have enjoyed seeing our students’ enthusiasm and commitment to the spirit days this past week! We want to take a moment to remind everyone about the importance of staying on top of assignments and turning in any late work.
Here are a few tips to help your child stay organized and stay on top of their schoolwork:
Set up a designated study space at home.
Create a daily or weekly planner to track assignments and deadlines.
Encourage your child to reach out to teachers if they have questions or need extra help.
Celebrate their accomplishments and progress, no matter how small.
If your child is struggling with a particular subject or is feeling overwhelmed, don’t hesitate to reach out for additional support and resources.
Thank you for your ongoing support in helping your child succeed at Meridian Middle School.
Warm regards,
MMS Counselors
GENERAL MMS INFORMATION
Comprehensive Sexual Health Education Lessons
Students in seventh grade will be taking part in comprehensive sexual health lessons beginning Nov. 15 in health class.
Parents and guardians may review the Positive Prevention Plus curriculum and may remove their children from these lessons with a written request. (RCW 28A.300.475). Families who wish to opt their children out of these lessons must turn in an opt-out form to the school office before the first day of lessons. Opt-out forms will be available from the health classroom. Students who opt-out of the lessons will complete an alternate activity on body systems.
Veterans Day Celebration
Meridian Middle School will celebrate Veterans Day on Tuesday, November 7 with an assembly. If your family member has any relatives who have served in our Armed Forces, we’d love to collect a picture of them, along with their branch and dates of service so we can feature it during our assembly. Please email the pictures to Mrs. Yeager!
Submit a Thank You Note for American Education Week!
American Education Week is Nov. 13-17. We are celebrating all staff who work in Meridian School District! Please join us in expressing gratitude for all that they do! You can submit as many ‘thank you’ notes as you’d like to. Thank you notes will be delivered to staff members via email during American Education Week. Thank you for helping us make this a great week!
Want to volunteer with the boosters club? Volunteer opportunities range from helping with projects for the school, staff and students to running concessions during dances and athletic games. You can find out more about the middle school boosters by following our Facebook page and/or emailing us at meridianmiddlebooster@gmail.com.
COMMUNITY RESOURCES
Family Services Center
The Meridian School District Family Resource Center is open daily from 8:30 to 3:30 in portable 400A on the Irene Reither campus.
Students who qualify for free or reduced meals can stop by to get school supplies or sign up for Operation School Bell which provides new school clothes for students enrolled in Meridian School District. We also have the clothing closet available for any Meridian family looking for gently used adult and kid clothing.
Students who can’t make it in to the family center to get school supplies can pop into the middle school office to get the supplies they need.
