Mock Crash Drill at MHS on May 4

On Thursday, May 4 a mock crash drill and assembly will take place at Meridian High School from 10:35 to 11:25 a.m. The mock crash will simulate an emergency medical and law enforcement response to a motor vehicle accident caused by distracted or impaired driving. The drill may include a helicopter landing on the football field to simulate transporting a critical patient. The drill will mean there is increased emergency medical personnel and law enforcement presence at the school.

The drill and assembly are intended to educate students on the dangers of driving distracted or impaired. The assembly was proposed by two Meridian High School leadership students working closely with PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center.

This drill is provided in partnership with PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center, North Whatcom Fire and Rescue, Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Patrol, Support Officer Community Care, Prospect Fire/EMS Dispatch Center, LifeFlight and Heston Hauling.

Students who request to be excused from the drill will do an alternate activity during the assembly. Please work with the school counselor if you feel your child needs to be excused.

Before and after the drill, students will be surveyed to check their knowledge about the risks of distracted and impaired driving and will have an opportunity to give feedback about the drill.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Principal Derek Forbes at 360-398-8111.
