Hello MMS Trojan Families!

As we get even closer to the first day of school on September 1 – the excitement is building!  We promised we’d provide some additional details as we approached the launch of the year – and we’re here to deliver!

Welcome Back Evening

Don’t forget that our campus will be open for our “Welcome Back Evening” on Tuesday Aug 30.

At this event plan to:

  • Pick up the student’s class schedule
  • Meet teachers (not all will be present)
  • See new classrooms / walk the schedule
  • Turn in Free/Reduced Lunch Paperwork
  • Receive your locker assignment
    • All grades CAN receive a locker (sorry for the misprint in the last email)
    • Having a locker is optional
    • If you want a locker at this event, the student will need to bring:
      • A lock (with the combination or spare key)
    • Students can also get a locker during Homeroom during Week 2
  • Pick up last year’s report cards that may have gotten lost in the mail (7th and 8th grade only)
  • Get answers to any questions you may have

We’ll also be providing FREE Kona Ice to all of our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders (with purchase available for other family members) – so don’t miss out on this chance to reconnect with friends and our school community while getting your student prepared for the year!
In order to reduce congestion in the hallways and with parking, we ask that 7th and 8th graders and their families attend from 5:30 to 6:30 while 6th graders and their families should attend from 6:30 to 7:30.  We can’t wait to see you there!  If you have questions, feel free to call our office at 360-398-2291.

School Hours

At MMS, our school day runs from 8:05am to 2:45pm, with a one-hour late arrival on Friday (9:05am).  Doors open in the morning at 7:55am for students to enter the building.

Parent Drop-Off & Parent Pick-Up

If you’re planning to drop-off or pick-up your student from MMS this year, please review the below graphics that will explain where and how this process occurs on our campus.  We have a bit less space to work with than some of the other schools, so it’s important we all work together to make this process smooth, efficient, and safe.

Morning Drop-Off
As you arrive for drop off, please pull into the yellow zone to wait.  Do not drop off students in that area.  Use the green zone for a quick stop for students to exit the car.  If you need a longer time for your student to collect their things and/or to say goodbye, park in the lot so as not to block the drop-off zone.  Please do not drive in the red zone (bus loop).

Any students who arrive before 7:55 will need to enter the courtyard through the open gate and wait in the gray zone “Student Waiting Area” between the cafeteria and main building until doors open at 7:55. Students who arrive after 7:55am can walk through the “Student Waiting Area and on to class directly.

Afternoon Pick-Up Map
As guardians arrive to pick up students, we ask that you find a place to park in the green zone on the map below, and do not drive or park in the red zones (bus loop and staff parking).

At 2:45 (end of day), all students who are being picked up will report to the new gym.  Once the buses have loaded and departed, students being picked-up will be released to walk through the parking lot to find their guardian’s car.  You may leave as soon as your student arrives to your car.  Please drive cautiously and watch for other students as you leave.

Excused Absences and Tardy Arrival

We are going to be placing additional emphasis on attendance and on-time arrival this year.  If your student is absent from school, please contact our Attendance Secretary Nicole Heinrich via email or by phone at 360-398-2291 to excuse the absence.  The same applies for when students are going to arrive late to school.

The following are designated as reasons for excused absences or excused tardy arrival to school:
  • Illness, health condition, or medical appointment (for physical and mental health reasons)
  • Family emergency (death or illness in family)
  • Religious or cultural holiday, instruction, or observation
  • Court proceedings
  • Other as outlined in Board Policy 3122

As always – feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns!

Go Trojans!

Mr. Kratzig, Assistant Principal
