Dear Families,
We’re excited to announce that Spirit Week kicks off next week! This cherished tradition is more than just a time for fun—it’s an opportunity to strengthen the sense of community that makes Meridian such a special place. Each day will feature a theme chosen by our MMS Leadership students (see below for the details for each day).
At Meridian, we are committed to creating an environment where every student experiences joy and feels valued for who they are. Spirit Week aligns with this work by fostering connections, building camaraderie, and celebrating what it means to be part of our Trojan family.
Thank you for your continued partnership in making Meridian a place where all students thrive!

A Peek Into the Classroom
Mr. Dennis
Social Studies with Mr. Dennis
Jacob Dennis teaches 7th grade social studies at MMS, and it’s clear how much his students enjoy his class. Former students often stop by on their way to class to say “hello,” and students visit in the mornings for a positive check-in. Mr. Dennis is known for building strong relationships with his students and maintaining a consistent morning routine that fosters predictability and a sense of safety.
Recently, one aspect of his morning routine stood out: activating prior knowledge. Before beginning the lesson, Mr. Dennis asked students to “turn and talk” about what comes to mind or what they already know about the word industry. This strategy not only encouraged students to connect with their existing knowledge of this key vocabulary word but also gave them an opportunity to engage in meaningful conversation with their peers right away. While listening to their discussions, Mr. Dennis gathered valuable insights into their current understanding—a fantastic opportunity for formative assessment to guide his instruction in real time.
Keep up the great work, Mr. Dennis!

Snow Bus
Be Prepared: Weather Notifications
As the seasons change and the weather turns colder, it is a good time to take a moment to review our winter weather procedures. Depending on conditions (which could include snow, flooding, power outages, etc.), the school day could be impacted. Meridian School District uses a variety of ways to communicate about school closures or delays:
  • An email, text, app notification and/or phone call will automatically be sent to you via ParentSquare.
  • Tune to local media: 790 AM, 96.5 FM, 104.1 FM or Seattle media.
  • Check  www.meridian.wednet.edu
  • Check @meridianschooldistrict505 on Facebook or Instagram
  • Sign up for notifications through FlashAlert
Visit our Weather Notifications webpage for more information about inclement weather and delays.
Planner
Student Weekly Planners
You will notice a yellow folder with a weekly planner in your student’s backpack. Students will use these planners to record their work from each class. Students will then use the checkbox to “check off” the work if it’s been completed in class or leave it unchecked if it needs to be completed at home.
Although the main goal of this tool is to help students develop critical executive functioning skills around planning and prioritization, these planners can also act as a communication tool for families to have a greater awareness of what is happening at school.
Click here to watch a video of Mr. Muskavage talking about how students will use their weekly planners.
