Hello everyone,
As we observe Mental Health Awareness Month this May, it’s a perfect time to remind ourselves of the importance of mental well-being. At Meridian High School, we understand that life’s pressures and challenges can be overwhelming, and maintaining good mental health is crucial for everyone.

We want to encourage all our students to prioritize their mental health and to remember that it’s okay to seek help. If you ever feel the need to talk, please reach out to our school counselors, Cheryl McBride and Don McMains. They are here to provide a supportive and confidential space for you to express your thoughts and feelings. Whether you’re dealing with stress, anxiety, or any other concern, our counselors are equipped to help you navigate these challenges.

Mental health is just as important as physical health, and seeking support is a sign of strength. If you or someone you know needs assistance, please don’t hesitate to visit us in the office or reach out via email or phone.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at 360.398.8111. If you need translation support, please contact our cultural liaison, Elvira Trautman at 360.306.2886.

Esports Recognition

This week we want to bring the spotlight over to our expanding Esports Team. Our squad has been competing at a high level all year and has been a growing force for the past few years. This year the team has been able to compete in Rocket League, Valorant, and Overwatch, expanding to a Varsity and JV team for Rocket League.

Our Rocket League team has continued to be highly competitive, having a history of state appearances, competing for a state title in the 2020-2021 school year. Our competitors on the Valorant and Overwatch team contain a lot of youth but are quickly gaining experience and hope to be a competitive force in the upcoming years.

Unfortunately for those who are hoping to check out an Esports match the season has wound down to a close, however they will be getting rolling again next year. The team is always looking for new teammates so don’t be afraid to check out the program in the fall.

We wish our Esports team the best of luck next year and want to congratulate them on an impressive Rocket League season and the continued energy and effort put into the Valorant and Overwatch 2 teams.

National Taffy Day, May 23rd

On May 23rd, we celebrate one of our favorite sweet and chewy treat on National Taffy Day. Taffy has a long history as one of America’s native sweets.  Common lore has it that in the 1880’s, a Jersey Shore candy shop got flooded, soaking the shop’s taffy stock with Atlantic salt water.  On a lark, the owner sold the candy as “saltwater taffy” and an American delicacy was born!  National Taffy Day is a day to indulge in the sweet pastime of unwrapping that twisty wax paper and popping a chewy bit of taffy into your mouth.  Yum!
