We are honored in Meridian School District to have two high school student representatives that serve on our school board. These student representatives serve in an advisory capacity and engage in conversation with the school board during decision-making.

This year our two student representatives were senior Morgan Adams and junior Kennedy Brzozowski. Morgan will graduate this June, and Kennedy will continue to serve on the school board next year. We took a moment to hear Morgan and Kennedy’s reflections on the past year and their experience on the school board.

Why do you think it is important to have student participation on the school board?

Morgan: I believe that having student participation on the school board offers a personal perspective to the board members. It’s crucial for students to have the opportunity to voice their opinion on issues that directly affect them.

What did you learn about the school board that stands out to you?

Kennedy: This past year I have learned that the school board seeks what will be the best for students at Meridian and really cares about the well-being of staff, students, parents, and others inside the district.

What are you most proud of from your time on the school board?

Morgan: During my time on the school board, I’m most proud of the student advisory group that Kennedy and I have been leading. It’s a group of 12 students from Meridian High School that want to engage to make our school a better place. From this group, Kennedy and I are able to receive diverse opinions with new ideas to support every student with the district’s core values.

What’s a favorite memory from your time on the board?

Kennedy: Attending the WSSDA conference in Bellevue this year was undoubtedly my favorite memory from my time on the board. I loved meeting other student board representatives, receiving valuable information and insights on school boards, and engaging with our board members from Meridian.
