Hello MHS Community,

We’re just a week away from Spring Break! It’s that time of the year when we get to hit pause on the chaos of school life and take a moment to relax. But also, let’s think about making the most of this upcoming break.

Yes, Spring Break is all about taking time off from school and catching up on some much-needed sleep. And I know you deserve every bit of it! But, it’s also a golden opportunity to do a little self-check-in and get prepared for the final sprint of the school year.

With just ten weeks left after the break, now’s the perfect time to hit reset and refocus. Take a look at where you’re at academically—any classes you need to give a little extra attention? Any assignments you’ve been putting off? Use this time to catch up, set some goals, and come back ready to crush it.

Also, it’s not just for the students! Educators, you’ve been doing amazing work this year, and I know you’ve got big plans for the rest of the semester. Take a breather, recharge your batteries, and come back with even more of that enthusiasm that makes MHS great!

Let’s come back from Spring Break feeling refreshed, refueled, and ready to finish the year strong. Your hard work, dedication, and positivity are what make this place so special.

Enjoy your Spring Break and get ready for the home stretch!

Sincerely,

MHS Office Team

NCTA – “See Yourself Here” Event

The Northwest Career & Technical Academy (NCTA) is an extension of MHS and provides innovative educational opportunities and training necessary to juniors and seniors. Best of all, NCTA is tuition-free for high school students! NCTA courses are designed to empower students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed after high school. To learn more about the courses offered go to https://www.nwtech.k12.wa.us/courses/

If you would like to learn more by visiting campus, NCTA is hosting a tour of the programs on its Mt. Vernon campus on March 27th. Students can take a bus from MHS to NCTA to learn more about the different programs NCTA offers.

To attend on the 27th, you need to do two things:
1. Come to the office to pick up a permission slip and return it to the MHS office by Tuesday, March 26th.
2. Fill out the online form found at https://t.ly/C-vcL. While the form mentions other dates and programs to visit. MHS only offers a bus to attend the Mt. Vernon campus on March 27th.

If you have more questions, please get in touch with your counselor.

Spring State Assessments Begin Soon

Spring state assessments in English language arts (ELA) and math will begin in April for our 10th grade students and any 11th or 12th grade students who have not met their graduation pathway. English language arts (ELA) and math are measured with Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA). 11th grade students will also take a state assessment in science, which is measured with the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS).

The results from the state assessments will help us improve instructional practices and give families information about how their student is doing and where additional help might be needed. The assessments also give us a more accurate picture of whether students are on track to be ready for college or career by graduation.

The bell schedule will be adjusted for testing to take place each morning. Testing will take place on April 16th, 17th, 23rd, 24th and 25th. More information about testing, including a bell schedule for the dates listed, will be available after spring break.

Major League Baseball Opening Day, March 28th

All 30 MLB teams are in action as the MLB celebrates Opening Day on March 28th! This season is especially exciting because it will mark the first time since 1968 that all teams begin play (in the U.S.) on the same day. Remember, it’s not springtime until Major League Baseball says its springtime. Today is your day!
