Hello Meridian High School Community,

With the first day of spring this week, the signs of spring are already upon us.  Spring sports competition began last week with 201 of our students participating in eight sports.

Registration to request classes for next year has also started for freshmen and sophomores.  This week, juniors will meet with the counselors to look at options for classes to take next year.  While our 9th-11th graders are thinking about classes for next year, our seniors are finalizing their senior presentations and taking steps towards their next chapter in life after graduation on June 10th.

While work is being done in preparation for the future, it is important to remember to focus on taking the steps necessary for success in current classes.  One of the most important steps is regular attendance.

When students attend regularly, they have more opportunities to learn and understand the content being taught in class.  Regular attendance also promotes student health and well-being with access to school resources and interaction with staff and students.  Attending school builds a foundation for student success.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at 360.398.8111. If you need translation support, please contact our cultural liaison, Elvira Trautman at 360.306.2886.

Sincerely,
MHS Office Team

Music Department Recognition

This week is music recognition week! Our music department consists of our band (concert and jazz), choir (concert and chamber), and our color guard. Our band has worked extremely hard this year to bring life and spirit to our football and basketball games. In September they traveled to UW to perform in Husky Band Day and had a great time. In the same month, they placed 2nd in the Leavenworth parade and 3rd in the Auburn parade in November. During February, some representatives from the choir went and took part in solo and ensemble and did amazing. Coming up on March 28th the choir will be traveling to take part in the large group festival, good luck to our choir! Our music department has a concert this Tuesday, March 19th, at 7 pm. We hope to see you there cheering on our musicians! We’d like to thank everyone who supports and is involved in our music department! We appreciate your hard work and dedication.

National Puppy Day

Prepare yourselves for an overdose of cuteness, because March 23 is National Puppy Day! Established in 2006, National Puppy Day is a day for all dog enthusiasts to celebrate unconditional love and fawn over the undeniably cute pups that bring so much happiness into this world. While we’re all softies when it comes to our four-legged friends, today is also designed to raise awareness about puppy mills and help prospective pet owners consider adoption.
