Trojan family,
We hope that you are back in the swing of things after last week’s break for Thanksgiving. As of this newsletter, there are only 10 days left until Winter Break!
We are in the thick of a multi-week spirit week celebrating the lead up to our annual “Give Before You Get” day and “Winter Wishes” celebration. If you’re not aware of what Winter Wishes is, you can watch this feature video that was created by the Association of Washington School Principals several years ago. This program runs off of community donations – and it’s not too late to give. Just follow this link and you can make a contribution of any amount. We’re also accepting donations for “Give Before You Get” day – see the blurb below!
As always, let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
Go Trojans!
Mr. Doffing, Principal
Mr. Kratzig, Assistant Principal

“Give Before You Get”
On Thursday, December 19th, our entire school community will come together for an incredible event, “Give Before You Get,” a meaningful community service day designed to embody the spirit of generosity and selflessness that defines this season.
What makes this special?
  • Every student and staff member participates, selecting a service project that resonates with them.
  • It’s an opportunity to give back, be part of something larger, and get a taste of community service.
  • These projects can make a real difference in our community and even look great on resumes, opening doors for continued service.
How does it work?
A sign-up form will go live on Student Square during homeroom on Monday, December 9th, where students can rank their project choices. While we may not be able to honor every top choice, having solid backup options ensures everyone finds a project that fits.
Examples of Projects
  • Connecting with IRE and MP3 students in the classroom and on the playground.
  • Crafting holiday cards or uplifting notes for at-risk youth, domestic violence survivors, healthcare workers, first responders, and nursing homes.
  • Preparing sack lunches for Road 2 Home or meals for Agape House.
  • Cleaning buses, beautifying parks, or contributing to outdoor campus clean-up efforts.
  • Making friendship bracelets or game kits for foster families.
  • Caroling at nursing homes or creating thank-you posters for fire stations.
Donations Needed
Families can contribute by donating items like card-making supplies, stickers, leftover crafts, old board games, friendship bracelet kits, or grocery gift cards. To donate or learn more, contact Kayla Turner at kbernsen@meridian.wednet.edu.
Let’s come together and GIVE before we GET, celebrating the joy of generosity and supporting our Winter Wishes program, which concludes on Friday, December 20th. Together, we can make an incredible impact!

Mixed-Status Families Applying for Financial Aid
The National College Attainment Network (NCAN) released a statement on Thursday, November 21, regarding mixed-status families filling out the FAFSA. NCAN encourages families to gather as much information as possible before deciding whether to submit the form, as the risks may outweigh the benefits for some.
For students in Washington, options include:
  • Submitting the WASFA (the Washington Student Achievement Council is committed to student privacy).
  • Submitting the FAFSA.
  • Waiting to submit either form until more information is available.
We will continue to provide updates as new information emerges.
