At 8:02 a.m. this morning, local law enforcement arrived at Meridian High School and asked the school to go into lockdown. Deputies were able to clear the building and found no evidence of a threat. The lockdown was lifted at 8:24 a.m. All of our students and staff are safe.

Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office shared that a 911 call had been received that indicated an active shooter threat at Meridian High School. The sheriff’s office was later able to identify the location of the phone call was from the Seattle area.

Though not directly impacted, and out of an abundance of caution, Meridian Middle School and Irene Reither Elementary went into secure mode. MP3 and District Office also entered lockdown during the same time.

We understand that events like this can be distressing and we will have extra support on site today for both students and staff. If you or your child needs additional support, please contact the school office or speak to a trusted adult.

We want to extend our gratitude to our local law enforcement for their quick response and immediate action. Though the threat turned out to be false, we are thankful for their partnership and dedication to keeping our students and staff safe.

You can learn more about our safety procedures on our website. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.
