Last week on May 8th, we celebrated School Nurse Day—a day dedicated to recognizing the essential role of school nurses and health services assistants in promoting student health and well-being. Today, we want to extend appreciation to our incredible healthcare team at Meridian High School: School Nurse Stacy King and Health Services Assistant Rachael Berdan.
Stacy and Rachael play a vital role in our school community, providing compassionate care, first aid, and health education to our students and staff. They work tirelessly behind the scenes and are always ready to respond to health-related needs, ensuring the safety and wellness of everyone at Meridian High.
Stacy and Rachael are truly team players and are willing to do anything they can to positively impact our students. As we continue through the final weeks of the school year, let’s take a moment to express our gratitude to Stacy and Rachael for their commitment to the health of our students, as well as their overall well-being.

National Barbecue Day
National Barbecue Day is celebrated every May 16. Barbecues are one of America’s favorite pastimes. Since the activity is highly common in the U.S., it is no surprise that a special day has been dedicated to celebrating the barbecuing tradition.
Although the concept of barbecuing did not originate in America, the activity has become an essential part of American culture today. The history of barbecuing in the U.S. goes back to colonial times where any celebration was incomplete without a cookout. After the Revolutionary War was won and the first bridge was built over the Missouri River, barbecue celebrations erupted all over the nation. Even the American presidents are famous for hosting massive barbecues during times of success and on days of special observances. In fact, George Washington’s diary is said to have referenced a barbecue event that lasted for three days — that’s how deeply rooted barbecuing is in the country’s history!
