Hello MHS Community,

Last Thursday night our upcoming freshmen class and their families participated in 8th Grade Family Night to hear about what to expect next fall, how to register for high school classes, and to spend time in the Commons learning about different sports and club options at MHS.  It was fantastic to have them with us and I look forward to what they will bring to our campus next year.

One of the things shared with the Class of 2028 is the importance of doing your best now in preparation for your future. For our current 8th graders,  that means taking advantage of every opportunity they have to build their skills, knowledge, and habits over the remainder of the school year to help prepare them for a successful transition to high school.

That same message applies to all of our students. While it may not be transitioning to a new school, the harder we work today to build our skills and knowledge, the more opportunities we have in the future. Students, your MHS staff is here to help you with that work so take advantage of it – whether it is in class, T3, or after school in the Trojan Learning Center.

We are certain many of our seniors will talk about those opportunities as they complete their senior presentations this Thursday. We will have an early release (school ends at 12:10) to allow for their presentations that afternoon. In addition, we will also have a special schedule on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week for state testing.  Please be sure to read the sections below that provide more detail about testing this week.

Sincerely,
The MHS Office Team

Testing this Week

There will be a special schedule on Tuesday and Wednesday this week for testing.

9th, 10th, and 11th graders are all expected to be here at the normal start of school.  There are also and handful of 12th graders who will be contacted separately who also need to come in for testing.

Seniors who either have to finish credit retrieval courses this semester or are currently struggling in a class should also be on campus at the normal start of school.

While most students who are testing will be assigned to their Homeroom teacher, it was not possible to do that for all students so it is important to check the room assignment listed posted around campus to confirm where students need to go on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Testing also continues the following week, on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

If you have any questions about testing this week, please contact Mr. Forbes at dforbes@meridian.wednet.edu or call the office at 360-398-8111.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU SHUT DOWN YOUR CHROMEBOOK AND RESTART IT, SO IT HAS ALL THE CURRENT UPDATES BEFORE TESTING

Comprehensive sexual health education lessons begin May 13th

Students in 10th grade will be taking part in comprehensive sexual health lessons beginning May 13th during their health class.

Parents and guardians may review the Positive Prevention Plus curriculum and may remove their children from these lessons with a written request. (RCW 28A.300.475).  Families who wish to opt their children out of these lessons must turn in an opt-out form to the school office before the first day of lessons. Students who opt-out of the lessons will have an alternate health assignment unrelated to sexual health education.

Materials will be available for families to review on April 23rd from 5pm-6pm in the Meridian High School library.

Parking

We have hit the spring season at MHS and that means we have more students driving to school every day.  Parking spaces are limited and on a first come first serve basis.  There are not assigned spots or spots designated for certain vehicles only.  If you arrive to school late, you will need to find a marked parking spot on campus to park in.  Please be respectful of others and park appropriately.

This past week was Boys Soccer Recognition week!
Meridian’s Varsity team is not only the defending District Champion, but also boasts an impressive 6-3-1 record this season. The JV team has experienced similar success this year with a record of numerous wins with only 1 loss!
This Tuesday (the 16th), both teams play Nooksack @MHS and Thursday (the 18th), they play Blaine @MHS (JV at 4:30 and Varsity at 7:00 both nights).
Attendance at games earns students punches on their Spirit Cards, which can be used to get prizes at the end of the spring sports season. If you can, please support our Boys Soccer players! Go Trojans!
