Dear Meridian High School Community,
For Monday, January 15th, I want to remind everyone that there will be no school as we honor the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. and all that he contributed to the fight for civil rights. Last Thursday, our students gathered in the auditorium for a truly impactful assembly. The highlight of the event was a powerful video narrated by individuals who were teenagers during the Civil Rights Movement. This video not only served as a window into history but also emphasized the crucial role these young people played in pushing for voting rights in Selma, AL. Our students were not only attentive, but also deeply engaged and respectful throughout the entire presentation. It was fantastic to witness how they connected with the experiences of those who were instrumental in the Civil Rights Movement and, in particular, Dr. King’s tireless efforts. As we observe Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, we have the opportunity to reflect on the principles of equality, justice, and compassion that he championed. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at 360.398.8111. If you need translation support, please contact our cultural liaison, Elvira Trautman at 360.306.2886. Wishing you a meaningful Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, MHS Office Team
