In Meridian, our core value of Learning is defined by an equitable education that develops students’ academic and personal skills for life. Lisa (Maxwell) Perigo, a dedicated first grade teacher at Irene Reither Elementary, embodies this core value by ensuring all students can access learning through a variety of thoughtful strategies and methods. Mrs. Perigo believes that accessibility is key to positive learning outcomes.

Mrs. Perigo emphasizes the importance of students helping and supporting each other in the classroom. She uses GLAD (Guided Language Acquisition Design) strategies to maintain rigorous content while providing the necessary structure for all students to succeed. She also tracks student progress through metrics, ensuring that students have ownership of their learning and accountability. “It’s important for students to track their own progress and have ownership in their learning,” she said.

In her classroom, Mrs. Perigo fosters critical thinking, collaboration and communication skills. She aims to create cultivators of their own world, preparing students to be positive and productive members of society.

Mrs. Perigo’s approach to teaching is inclusive and community-focused. She values the strong sense of community at Irene Reither. Her passion for teaching is evident in her dedication to her students, who inspire her to be the best teacher she can be. “The students show up as their authentic selves every day, and that inspires me to do the same,” she shared.

We are incredibly grateful for Mrs. Perigo’s commitment to creating a positive and inclusive learning experience for all students!
