Principal’s Message

IRE Families,
Wow, we are starting week 29 of our 39-week school year! Quarter 3 wraps up next week before Spring Break, and we’re entering a crucial time for learning and growth.
At home with my two boys, we talk a lot about sports—especially how the best athletes push their hardest in the final quarter or last period of play. The same is true for school. A great mentor I had would share with kids, “How you finish this school year is how you will start the next one.” After 15+ years in education, I’ve seen this hold true time and time again.
Daily attendance plays a huge role in academic success. Did you know that missing just two days a month can lead to serious learning loss? Learn more here.
As we approach the final stretch, here are some questions to reflect on as a family over dinner:
  • What’s something you’ve improved on this school year?
  • How can you finish strong and be ready for the next grade?
  • What habits help you stay focused and successful each day?
We are so proud of our students and can’t wait to see them each day as we finish the year strong together!
Best,
Tyler

New Meridian Middle School, Funding and Costs Explained

One question we’ve received is regarding the cost of building a new Meridian Middle School. The estimated cost includes various factors such as site development, demolition, construction cost escalation, taxes and more. A detailed breakdown of the costs is available on our website.
While fundraising can support smaller projects, constructing a new school exceeds the district’s annual budget. The way school districts can fund the construction of new schools is through bonds, which require a 60% supermajority vote to pass. The Meridian Middle School project will cost an estimated $70.9 million. This includes $16.2 million in state-match funds, which are only available if the bond passes. Learn more about the costs and financial impact in the videos below or on our website.
