Principal’s Message
IRE Families,
We are excited to announce that Family-Teacher Conferences are just around the corner, happening from Monday, February 10th, through Thursday, February 13th! This is a valuable opportunity to connect as partners in your child’s educational journey.
Conference sign-ups will be shared by classroom teachers this Friday at 1 PM, so keep an eye out for an email or message to secure your spot!
At IRE, we’ve put a lot of thought into what makes a conference meaningful and impactful. Here’s what you can expect:
  • Clear Agenda: Designed with input from families and students to ensure a focused and productive discussion.
  • Student-Led Component: Your child will actively participate, sharing their reflections and growth.
  • Evidence-Based Conversations: Grounded in student work, assessments, and academic milestones.
  • Supportive Resources: Strategies and tools will be provided to help continue learning at home.
  • Academic Overview: A clear picture of progress and next steps.
  • Follow-Up Plan: A shared plan to keep your child supported and thriving.
Additionally, counselors will be around during conferences if there are any concerns that you would like to share about changes in your student’s life.
As we approach Valentine’s Day, please note that each classroom celebrates this holiday a little differently. We encourage you to check in with your child’s teacher for specific details about their plans. Additionally, please reference our Safe Foods List and help us promote celebrations that limit high-sugar foods. Let’s work together as a community to find creative ways to celebrate!
We can’t wait to collaborate with you during this exciting time. Thank you for being such an essential part of our school community!
See you Tuesday, January 28th (no school tomorrow).
Best,
Tyler Dockins, Principal

Highly Capable Screening and Opt-Out
2nd and 5th Grade Parents,
At the end of January, your child will participate in the 2nd grade or 5th grade CogAT screener to help determine placement in the Highly Capable Program (HCP). The Highly Capable Program serves the academic needs of students who perform or show potential for performing at significantly advanced academic levels when compared with others of their age, experience, or environment. Referral for assessment does not guarantee qualification.
The district will use the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) as a screening tool in the HCP identification process. The CogAT screener is completed on computers. It is a timed multiple choice test and takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. The CogAT is used in conjunction with all other available information to help a committee determine if your child qualifies for HCP services. If your child qualifies for services you will be notified and asked for permission before your student participates.
If your child qualifies for further testing, you will be notified in February. The data will be reviewed in March when all testing is complete. Final notifications will be sent out by April.
Screening is optional. If you do not want your child to participate in the screening, please fill out the form and submit it no later than Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025.

Access for English Language Learners
Each year, students in English learner programs take an assessment to measure their English knowledge and skills. This assessment is called ACCESS for ELLs. The test measures academic English language proficiency for students learning English in our school and throughout our state.
Teachers in our school use this information to help them make decisions about instruction for your child. Teachers also use these test scores to monitor the progress your child makes toward English proficiency.
Students who are multilingual learners will take the ACCESS for ELLs test between January 27th and March 21st.
Please let us know if you have any questions!
