Principal’s Message
IRE Families,
Thank you to all of the men and women and their families who have served in our military! Your service is greatly appreciated!
In honor of Veteran’s Day, there will be no school on Monday, November 11th.
The school year calendars in English and Spanish are available on our website.
Additionally, we honor those who have served by preparing for a Veteran’s Day Assembly each year.
Our annual Veterans Day Assemblies will be held the morning of Thursday, November 7th. Due to our current enrollment, it is no longer possible to hold school wide assemblies as it is a fire code violation.
The schedule for November 7th assemblies are:
9:30 a.m.-10:00 a.m. TK, K, 1st & 2nd
10:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m. 3rd, 4th, 5th
Each assembly will last approximately 30 minutes. Veteran’s are welcome to attend either assembly.
If you’d like to submit a photo of a veteran in your family, please send by November 6th at 5PM. We will include those in our slideshow. If you have submitted one in the past, we will keep those photos in from last year.
Best,
Tyler Dockins, Principal

November’s Emergency Drill
In November, IRE students and staff will be practicing a LOCKDOWN Drill. The following is an example of how we explain a LOCKDOWN Drill to our IRE students:
A LOCKDOWN will be called if there is something dangerous happening inside our building. We might LOCKDOWN if there is a dangerous animal inside our school. We might LOCKDOWN if there is a dangerous person inside our school. Sometimes we might LOCKDOWN if there is a report of a dangerous weapon inside our school.
Schools in our county use the Standard Response Protocol from iloveuguys.org.  You can learn more about the protocol here.

Meridian Food Drive, Nov. 4-8 “Stuff the bus!”
From November 4th-8th, Meridian School District is hosting a food drive to support families in our community. Donations will go to the Meridian Family Support Center and Ferndale Food Bank. We’re collecting nonperishable and unexpired items like canned soup, vegetables, fruit, pastas, beans, cereals, rice, flour, cooking oils, peanut butter, and canned chicken and tuna. You can bring donations on the bus or drop them off at the school office. Let’s come together to help our community!
Jaydelyn, Cruz and Tucker
Video Tour of Meridian Middle School
Eighth graders Jaydelyn, Cruz and Tucker recently starred in a video tour of Meridian Middle School, highlighting its current condition. Rebuilding Meridian Middle School will be on the Nov. 5 ballot for voters in Meridian School District to consider. Despite being well-maintained, the school was originally constructed in 1938 and is showing its age, with growing upkeep costs.
Key concerns include non-reinforced concrete walls that don’t meet current seismic codes, unconnected buildings with outdoor entries and walkways posing security challenges, lack of accessible entries and restrooms, and an inadequate layout with specialists working in converted spaces.
Thank you for taking a few minutes to watch the video and remember to vote on Nov. 5.
