Principal’s Message

We’ve listened to your valuable feedback, and we’re excited to incorporate your ideas into this year’s Math Showcase Nights. Our goal is to create welcoming spaces where families can come together to celebrate our students’ achievements in mathematics, ask questions about how to support learning at home, and build strong mathematical mindsets.
Research shows that high expectations in the classroom and strong family-school partnerships are key to student success. We will also host our Superintendent, Dr. James Everett on a few of those nights as well for our district’s Thriving Futures! series. We’re looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible on these nights. Please save the dates below in your calendars!
Lastly, as we finish out our i-Ready testing, our school will begin our tiered intervention programs. When a student struggles on a newly taught concept, we have dedicated time to support their work in our school scheduled (called Tier 2 Time). If a student masters concepts, we also provide challenge during that same time. Additionally, we use i-ready to create a personalized learning pathway for each individual student. Our schoolwide expectation is about 30-45 minutes per week (mastering 2 reading and 2 math lessons). When students meet these expectations, they will most likely meet their growth goals for the year. Feel free to reach out to our teachers if you have any questions.
Best,
Tyler Dockins, Principal
Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 is National Hispanic Heritage Month
Each year, Americans observe this time by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at Irene Reither Elementary School, we honor the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of our Hispanic and Latino students and their families, who make up nearly 30% of our community.
This month is a wonderful opportunity for families to explore and embrace the diverse traditions and stories that enrich our school environment. We encourage you to visit PBS Parents’ resource on Hispanic Heritage Month, which offers engaging activities and educational materials that celebrate this vibrant heritage. Together, let’s learn, share, and appreciate the unique experiences that shape our school and our world!
Facilities Bond Vote on Nov. 5
Our community will vote on a facilities bond that includes several safety-related projects at our schools. This bond proposal follows an extensive study and survey of district needs, with recommendations from a task force of parents, staff and community members.
Projects include:
  • Building a new Meridian Middle School for grades 5-8 to alleviate overcrowding at Irene Reither Elementary. Originally constructed in 1938, MMS faces significant safety and accessibility challenges, and high earthquake risk due to non-reinforced concrete walls.
  • Safety improvements and repairs at Meridian High School, including a new music room in the old cafeteria to create a closed campus, roof and masonry repairs for the auditorium, stadium beam and roof repairs, new stadium lighting and an emergency power generator.
Join us for a community presentation at Meridian Middle School on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. to learn more about the bond projects and their financial impact. The event will include a Q&A session and a school tour led by students. If you can’t attend, the presentation will be available on YouTube.
