Principal Message
What a great first week!
The first day at Irene Reither is something special. Our devoted PTA helped to welcome families with coffee and get everyone excited for the year (look out for Trojan Trot communication soon). Our teachers worked hard to make sure that every single student’s first day was special. Our front office and facilities staff manage every little detail to welcome nearly 800 students into our building for the first time. Our families thoughtfully engaged in important conversations about how students feel about starting school and asking their students questions about what their hopes and dreams are for the year. I cannot share enough gratitude for every person that contributed to such a wonderful first day. We also made the newspaper.
Lastly, this year we are engaging in some tremendous math work and would love to partner with families to have conversations at home about how to talk about math. There are a lot of myths out there about mathematics, and we would love to be transparent about our approach. We also know that family and school partnership is critical. Please take some time to look at these incredibly short recommendations to support learning at home. As always, take reading every night also supports our literacy work.
Onward and upward into week two.
Best,
Tyler

In the coming weeks, your students will start with their math journey at IRE. Please take some time to learn about our first topic of instruction at each grade level. These are brief explanations of what they will be learning and how you can support at home with simple activities/questions. Try them out!
September 2nd – 6th

First Day of TK and Kindergarten

Welcome to the new school year!
We know that saying goodbye to your little ones can be challenging, but at school, we encourage kids to embrace their independence. Part of this growth includes walking themselves to their classrooms. To help with this transition, we have designated the foyer as a “Kiss and Go” location.
Kindergarten parents are welcome to walk their children to class on the first day, but after that, we kindly ask that you use the foyer for quick farewells.
In September, IRE students and staff will be practicing a SHELTER Drill. The following is an example of how we explain a SHELTER Drill to our IRE students:
A SHELTER will be called if there is an extreme weather event or a hazardous chemical exposure. An announcement will signal the need to start the SHELTER, and another announcement will signal the end of the SHELTER.
Schools in our county use the Standard Response Protocol from
iloveuguys.org. You can learn more about the protocol
here.
