Principal’s Message
As we close out Week 10, we are 25% of the way through the year. At this time, we share progress reports on the standards that we have taught during the first quarter. On November 7th, our teachers will send out a progress report guide to share more about those standards. The Progress Report Guide is helpful too to gather more detail to develop a deeper understanding of what proficiency looks like at each grade level. As always, if you have questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher.

Additionally, an important part of our collective celebrations is our Veteran’s Day Assembly. Similar to last year, we invite all veteran’s in the community to come to our assembly on Thursday, November 9th at 10am. Due to occupancy limits in our gym, we are unable to have families attend this assembly unless you are a Veteran. We will be attempting to record the assembly in a way that captures the songs and performances while honoring photo/video restrictions.

Lastly, if you would like to submit photos to be used in the Veteran’s Day Assembly slideshow, please email them to me at tdockins@meridian.wednet.edu (Here is an example of last year’s slideshow). In your email, please indicate who the photo is of and their relation to the student or staff member at IRE and what branch of service they served in.

Best,
Tyler Dockins, Principal

Submit a Thank You Note for American Education Week!
American Education Week is Nov. 13-17. We are celebrating all staff who work in Meridian School District! Please join us in expressing gratitude for all that they do! You can submit as many ‘thank you’ notes as you’d like to. Thank you notes will be delivered to staff members via email during American Education Week. Thank you for helping us make this a great week!

Backpack Tags

Each student should have a tag that is zip tied on their backpack.  This tag is given to every child so cafeteria staff can scan that tag at breakfast to keep the line moving faster.

Please help us by keeping these tags on the students backpacks.

Inclement Weather

As the seasons change and the weather turns colder, it is a good time to take a moment to review  winter weather procedures.  Depending on conditions (which could include snow, flooding, power outages, etc.), schools could close for the day, open two hours late with regular bus routes or snow bus routes or open on time with snow routes.  Please familiarize yourself with the information below to prepare for changes in the school schedule.
How will I be notified of school closures or delays?

A message will automatically come to you if you are a parent/guardian or staff member. You can update your contact information in Skyward Family Access or by calling your school office. Alerts are sent through ParentSquare. ParentSquare uses your contact information from Skyward. You do not need to activate your account in ParentSquare to receive alerts.

Where can I find weather or emergency information?

Meridian School District uses a variety of methods to keep you informed:

  • An email, text, app notification and/or phone call will automatically be sent to you via ParentSquare.

  • Tune to local media: 790 AM, 96.5 FM, 104.1 FM or Seattle media.

  • Check www.meridian.wednet.edu

  • Check @meridianschooldistrict505 on Facebook or Instagram

The district will continue to use FlashAlert Newswire to notify local TV and radio media of school closures or delays.

What are snow routes?

A snow bus route (or snow route) is a modified route that is used when road conditions are impacted by weather and driving a school bus in some areas may not be advised. Transportation will make individual arrangements for students who receive specialized transportation which do not follow the snow routes.

If snow routes are in effect, students must catch their bus at the alternate stops below:

  • Route 1: Van Wyck Road, Guide Meridian side: Meet at Ryzex Way, on W. Horton Rd.

  • Route 4: E. Horton Road: Meet at Ryzex Way, on W. Horton Rd.

  • Route 9: Zander Road: Meet at E. Smith Rd.

Where can I find more information?

Visit our Weather Notifications webpage for more information about inclement weather and delay.
