Principal’s Message
IRE Families,
As we approach the break, we want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude for all the ways you contribute to our school community. From your volunteering efforts to the support and dedication you show at home, you play an essential role in making our school a wonderful place for learning and growth.
We will miss seeing everyone over the break, but we’re already looking forward to welcoming you back on Monday, January 6th. In the meantime, we hope you have a safe and joyful holiday filled with quality time spent with family and friends.
Thank you for all that you do, and we wish you a merry and restful break!
Best,
Tyler Dockins, Principal

Common Threads Cooking Club
Join Common Threads to make delicious meals from scratch!
Registration is open now to all IRE Kinder-5th graders. Students may sign up for one two-week session. Just click the link below.
During each class, students will hone their teamwork skills and develop cooking techniques. After experiencing the fun of preparing and eating a meal with friends, students will go home with the recipe for their family to enjoy.
Our allergen-free recipes feature veggies grown on Whatcom County farms, and prove how absolutely delicious dark leafy greens and plant-based proteins can be!
Common Threads and IRE PTA are committed to making this opportunity accessible to all students. Please reach out to emily.hie@commonthreadsfarm.org if your family needs a sliding scale discount or scholarship!
Just a reminder … If your student attends these classes, make sure to updated SDM for those days.

December Safety Drill
In December, IRE students and staff will be practicing a HOLD Drill. The following is an example of how we explain a HOLD Drill to our IRE students:
A HOLD may be called if there is an altercation or disturbance in a hallway, a medical issue that needs attention, or unfinished maintenance in a common area during high-traffic times.
Schools in our county use the Standard Response Protocol from iloveuguys.org.  You can learn more about the protocol here.
Accepting Referrals for the Highly Capable Program by Dec. 13
We are accepting referrals for the highly capable program. Highly capable students are those who perform or show potential for performing at significantly advanced academic levels when compared with others of their age, experiences, or environments. Teachers and parents may refer any student in grades K-11 for assessment.
To refer a student for assessment, please complete the Highly Capable referral form by December 13, 2024 for eligibility in the 2025-26 school year.
If you have questions about the Highly Capable Program visit our website or contact Rebecca Montgomery, highly capable program coordinator, at 360-318-2456 or rmontgomery@meridian.wednet.edu.
