Integrated Pest Management and Asbestos Management Plan

The 2001 Legislature passed House Bill 1451 which requires school districts to notify the public of pest control and herbicide use. The district manages vegetation and pests using a minimum of pesticides. When pesticides are used, notification signs are posted at buildings 48 hours prior to pesticide use and for 24 hours after.

The 1986 Asbestos Hazardous Emergency Response Act (AHERA) requires school districts to identify buildings that contain asbestos. The act also requires school facilities to maintain written management plans. Detailed reports of both pesticide use and asbestos records are available at individual schools or the Maintenance and Operations Department or by calling 360-318-2156.
