Please join us on Tuesday, Oct. 8 for the ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the renaming of the Meridian High School north gym to Diane Axelson Court. A reception with light refreshments will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the MHS commons and the ribbon-cutting ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the gym prior to the varsity volleyball game.
Diane Axelson, was a beloved volleyball coach and former physical education teacher at Meridian High School, who led the Meridian Trojans to several district championships and state placements, including the memorable 2004 state win. This year marks the 20th anniversary of that victory, making the renaming ceremony even more special. In 2005, Axelson was inducted into the Washington State Volleyball Coaches Hall of Fame.
All of this was taken into consideration by the district Facility Naming and Dedication Committee, who were tasked with renaming the north gym. The school board approved the name in June.
The entire community is invited to join in the celebration and witness the unveiling of Diane Axelson Court. We hope you will join us!
