Last year, the Strategic Plan Development Committee created a plan that represents our community, and our hopes and expectations for all of our students. The new strategic plan called Our Commitments includes five core values: belonging, communication, support, wellness and learning. This year we are asking staff and students what these values mean to them!
Anokhi, 1st grader at Irene Reither Elementary School
What does belonging mean to you?
Anokhi: We stay together because if we don’t stay together we’ll be lonely.
What does it feel like to belong?
Anokhi: It feels happy.
How would you make a new student feel like they belong here?
Anokhi: I would make friends with them.
Clive, 2nd grader at MP3
Why did you pick learning?
“I like learning math, robotics, science and I really like understanding what’s around me. I really like writing too. I like all of my classes equally. I know division and multiplication, so it’s kind of easy when they ask me like what it equals. At home, I like to learn about math and poetry. I’m learning about different types of poetry like nonsense verse. That is probably my favorite kind.”
Morgan, 5th grader at Irene Reither Elementary School
Why did you pick learning and support?
“These go together like I can help other kids with their learning. I can ask my teacher, friends or my family for help. I am in leadership this year, so I can use my learning to help other kids.”
Lori VeltHuizen, food service worker at Meridian High School
What does wellness mean to you?
“Wellness to me means serving students well balanced foods to support their learning experience. When we serve them a breakfast or lunch we try to not only make it taste good but it also fuels their bodies and minds! Being able to give them proper nutrition is a very rewarding feeling!”
