Weekly Update from the Superintendent

Friday – September 14

This weekly update includes information from the district office and department staff regarding district operations.  It does not include updates or activities from each school site.

District Office Reorganization:  As you are aware, Bevin Graham is leaving the district. As a result I am reorganizing the district office responsibilities.  David Forsythe will take over leadership of Human Resources.  He will continue his leadership in Teaching and Learning, Curriculum, Staff Development, Assessment, and Federal Programs.  We will be hiring a half-time special education director, as well as adding a part time clerical position in human resources.

Construction @ High School:  The school board approved the replacement of the 20+ year old air handling units that serve the high school Performing Arts Center and Kitchen as part of the high school renovations.   Exterior siding is going up on the Education building.  Additionally, they are working on the fire suppression (sprinkler) installation as well as continuing the installation of equipment in the mechanical and engineering areas. Most of the roofing is now installed.

Construction @ Elementary:The playground equipment is being reinstalled in the southwest corner of the field area.  The construction fencing, driveway, and trailers have been installed.  They have graded the site and are working on installing water and septic lines.  They will begin preparing to install footings for the building soon.

School Board:  The school board met on Wednesday evening for a work session.  They heard a report and recommendation regarding the air handling units at the Performing Arts Center, heard an update from David Forsythe regarding the professional development plans for the year, heard a report from me regarding the “Keep Improving” plans, and heard a report from Daniel Yorton regarding the rules related state timber harvest revenue.

Business Office:    At this point in the year the finance staff is working on closing out the 2011/12 school year.  All purchase orders from here forward will be for the new school year (2012/13).  Thank you to all staff on working with school secretaries and district staff on closing out all 2011/12 expenses!

Human Resources:  -HR, Fiscal and Payroll are working hard to get September payroll ready.   Five new employment opportunities were posted this week: leave-replacement paraprofessional at IRPS, preschool paraprofessional, MMS LAP paraprofessional, Interim Special Education Director, and part-time clerical position in human resources.

Technology:The newly remodeled MMS East Computer Lab is up and running on lightning fast solid-state hard drives in brand new Intel i5 computers. Renaissance Place (replacement for Star Reader, Accelerated Reader and Accelerated Math) has been aligned with Skyward, loaded with student data and is ready to go.  As always, we continue to work on resolving your technology requests.

Transportation:Transportation is working to un-complicate the routes/times/locations for all the students, with particular effort toward IRPS/TMCE students.  Additionally, we are working on providing two-way radio communication for MMS.
