This weekly update includes information from the District Office and department staff regarding District operations and reminders. It does not include updates or activities from each school site.
Office of the Superintendent:
Groundbreaking Ceremony for the New MP3 Campus – The public and (available) staff members are invited to attend a groundbreaking ceremony for the new campus of the Meridian Parent Partnership Program (MP3).
The ceremony will be on Thursday, April 27th at 10:00AM on the property west of the high school parking lot. The Meridian School District Board of Directors will be present to officially initiate the construction phase of this project.
May 1st is the Deadline for Receiving Applications for the School Board District #5 Position – Citizens who are interested in serving on the school board and who live in Director District #5 (generally the northeast section of Meridian SD) must submit an application to the Superintendent no later than Monday, May 1st. After reviewing the applications the School Board intends to interview candidates on May 10th. Please notify me at 318-2151 or via e-mail at email@example.com if you know someone who is planning to apply so that I am able to meet with him/her prior to the application deadline.
Special Legislative Session – The regular session is scheduled to end on Sunday April 23rd. It appears certain the legislature will head into their first special session on Monday. Compromise on a 2-year budget has yet to occur.
Next Board Meeting - The next School Board meeting is at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, April 26, 2017. Board meetings are held in the Professional Development/Board Room at MHS. All staff members are invited and welcome to attend School Board meetings. Pay for Today’s Learning Improvement Day (LID) – Certified staff members should either sign in at their building or submit a time sheet to payroll (please check with your Principal) if you worked today in order to receive pay for this optional work day.
Food Services: (Maria Doyle, Food Services Supervisor)
New District Meal Charge Policy for 2017-2018 - Beginning August 30th 2017 all students who intend to buy food through the school meals program must pay in advance or pay as they go to purchase items. No credit will be extended. A courtesy meal will be offered to any student that does not have sufficient funds to cover the expense of the meal. This change is reflected in the recently revised Board Procedure 6700P.
Technology: (Joe O’Brien, Technology Services Supervisor)
Technology Training - Finding time for professional development with large groups is challenging and it's even harder to find time for professional development that is focused on using technology. When planning your next grade level or content level team meetings, consider including technology training as part of that meeting. With some advance notice we can provide instruction on technology use, from a brief training on using Google docs or Google calendar, or a longer training on a technology need specific to your team.
