Communications survey results

Thank you to everyone who shared their feedback in our recent survey about communications in Meridian School District. Overall, you reported that the new district and school websites are meeting your needs and the information is easy to understand. Most of you responded that you want to receive information from the district by email and ParentSquare. We are also happy to see that the majority of you said ParentSquare is working well and that you are satisfied with the level of communication from your school and the district. You can view the full survey results here.

Taking into consideration your feedback we have made the following improvements:

  • Added Skyward as a quick link (links at the top of the homepage).
  • COVID-19 information can now be accessed on the district site under Families & Students – Resources.
  • Added Sports Schedules as a link under Families & Students.
  • Changed “Meals and Menu” to “Lunch Menu” under Families & Students.

Things we are working on:

  • Making it clear who messages are from in ParentSquare (including grade/teacher name)
  • Mobile responsiveness and syncing errors in ParentSquare
  • Improving email response time to questions and information requests

We are always open to receiving feedback so we can improve communication. If you were unable to respond to the survey but have feedback you’d like to share, please contact Lisa Gilchrist, Director of Public Relations.

School improvement family survey

For us to continue to improve as a school district, it is important for us to understand your perceptions about how we are doing in providing a quality education for all our students. We are seeking information through a brief 10-minute survey that is available now through Feb. 28.

The survey is available in many languages. Laptops will be available during school conferences if you’d like to complete the survey while you are at our schools.

Attendance matters

Good attendance habits are strongly linked to student academic success. Regular attendance helps students build routines, increase engagement by building relationships with peers and teachers and provides access to enrichment activities and athletics. Regular attendance also supports student success by limiting disruptions to their learning.

We want to encourage good school attendance for all students. A few ways you can support good attendance is by talking to your child about why it is important to attend school everyday and helping your child maintain daily routines.

Here are some resources for families created by Attendance Works:

We want all of our students to keep connected and keep learning. If you need support or have questions about attendance, please contact your school.

Google Guardian Summary Invitation and GoGuardian

This week you will receive an invitation from Joe O’Brien, Director of Technology and Assessment, to sign up as a guardian in your student’s Google Classroom (Grades 3-12). Accepting this invitation will allow you to receive emailed summaries and see what has been assigned to your student in their classes.

Additional information about this feature can be found in the links below:

We also want to remind you that parents of students grades 2-12 have access to the GoGuardian Parent App. This application allows web-based filtering and parental controls on school-issued Chromebooks at home. You may set rules to allow or disallow certain websites, scheduled or on-demand internet pausing during out-of-school hours. The app gives parents a bird’s eye view of the apps and websites that their kids are on most often and control over school-issued Chromebooks during out-of-school hours. With this perspective, parents can be made aware of what types of browsing behavior schools are seeing from students, so they can all work together to encourage more effective internet browsing habits at home and at school. Directions for this app are on our district website.
