Greetings Meridian Students, Families and Community!

I made it a priority to visit many of our student activities the last two weeks. Our athletes have performed outstanding this fall. I enjoyed watching our girl’s soccer and volleyball teams compete, as well as our cross country teams hosting an event last Wednesday on our campus. In addition to the athletic events, I visited 3-4 classrooms in each of our schools last week. It is a pleasure to see our teachers and students in action! I also visited three separate Good Citizen assemblies at Irene Reither and the Homecoming assembly at MHS.

Homecoming Week

In fact, this is homecoming week! The theme is A Nightmare Before Homecoming. The MHS leadership students put on a great assembly Friday to share all the details for the week ahead. It is always a great week filled with spirit and enthusiasm - and a great time to enjoy visits from our alumni. There are several activities for students throughout the week and contests at the school. Please refer to this post by Bryant Michaelson, our Athletic Director. He does a superb job of keeping us all informed about our teams and athletes.

Good Citizen Awards

Irene Reither Elementary has continued to emphasize strong character traits and award students for displaying good citizenship. As mentioned above, I had the pleasure of attending the three Good Citizen assemblies this past week. The trait emphasized in September was Responsibility. The staff and administration have organized a method for reinforcing the traits, recognizing those who do it well and encourage each student to consider their own behaviors. Each teacher selected three students to be recognized as being prime ambassadors of responsibility. Their parents were invited and they got to enjoy a small treat. The assemblies also introduced the new trait for October: Kindness. Clicking here should open a larger image of the award photo above that may be printed. Congratulations to all the Good Citizen students and our Irene Reither Staff!

Hall Pass Tour

On the last Wednesday of September, I had the honor of hosting my first Hall Pass Tour group. There were 10 community members and one future Trojan as Gigi, a tour member’s granddaughter, is currently two years old. We loaded a school bus on the high school campus and visited each building in the district. Principals met the group in their buildings. It was an excellent opportunity to share about our great programs, facilities, and opportunities we have here at Meridian as each principal provided their building’s history, details and answered many questions. Our tour members asked great questions and provided positive feedback. There was a clear sense of appreciation of the programs and supports in place for our students. We will be doing another Hall Pass Tour in the spring. We will be sure to advertise well in advance!

Stuff The Bus

I had hinted previously we would be starting our Stuff the Bus campaign to collect food in October. Today is the first day! Please look at the details on the graphic above and help us help our community! Special thanks go out to our Transportation Department as they lead this work each year – and do a phenomenal job!

National Principal's Month

Finally, I want to recognize the great work of our principals as this is National Principal Month! I am proud to say we are fortunate to have such strong administrators leading our schools. In fact, great schools start with great leaders. Please take a moment to reach out and let them know how much they are appreciated. #ThankAPrincipal
